Most of the times I felt as if I was living among the characters and I am planning to visit the places that are mentioned in the book. Highly recommend book. Other characters are interspersed into the story seamlessly and the action moves at a furious pace with bits of historical facts here and there to enable the reader understand the characters, their place in the history of the region and the situation prevailing in those times better. Each chapter ends with a cliffhanger, making you rush to the next.

For a novel of this size, there are many characters like spies, magicians, warriors, soothsayers and Buddhists, and since the novel is this big, we get to know each of them very well. I imagine how grand it would be if someone got Kalki's writings on screen. It narrates the story of Arulmozhivarman (later crowned as Rajaraja Chola I), one of the kings of the Chola Dynasty during the 10th and 11th centuries.
