BOOK REVIEW / “A Sun Painted Gold“/ Laura Wood ___Genre: YA NovelPages: 385Language: EnglishPublisher: ScholasticRelease date: 2018Reading this book was like taking part in a delicious tea ceremony to magical chords of “Spring Waltz” (Marriage d’Amour) by Chopin in the royal palace. Smooth twists and funny details will put a kind smile on your face and drop an anchor in your bookish soul. She finds a sort of escape in writing and spending time in almost abandoned Cardew House that belongs to one wealthy family.

But I loved her because she was the most relatable to me. I'd definitely be keen to read more from Laura!

⁣⁣I was blown away by this coming of age story that will make you reminisce of your earlier years. How Robert seemed rough around the edges but was actually just a young kid thrown into filling adult shoes, way too early. A Sky Painted Gold is a gorgeous vivid account of an incredible summer, a lovely YA debut from an established children's writer.

It vividly describes and evokes the roaring twenties, from the London scene, the quiet, tranquil unaffected village of Penlyn, the fashions and the subtle shifts beginning to happen in society. The story follows Louise Trevelyan throughout the summer of 1929, starting with her feeling lost and isolated, the empty abandoned Cardew House she has always snuck off to seek refuge in has been reinhabited by its owners and her beloved older sister has married and moved out, leaving Lou to work how to just be the "'and Louise' part of 'Alice and Louise. It seems that all the novel is written in the ‘italic’ type. !

Covertly, she enjoys its grandeur, her peaceful privacy and writer’s musings until the day the owners decide to come back and spend the summer there. Over the course of weeks the glamorous but mysterious Cardew siblings turn Lou's world upside down and introduce her to a world she'd only seen in the magazines she loved to pour over with her sister.
