I think you have realised that I love this book, can I recommend it, I will just say this I have many books but few I really treasure, this is now one of them, thank you Kate for both writing and illustrating this wonderful book, just that, a heartfelt warm thank you. It is also not a book that you will read and place on the shelf it is one that you will come back to time and again, as a chronical of a time, personal history, and a huge pleasure so packed that I will I am sure to find something new each time I go back. So, this is both her life story and our history, so beautifully yet effortlessly woven together. So much of my life and experience has crossed theirs, it was like walking through my own, every page was so full it seemed to trigger a memory of a place or time, each name an oh yes how could I have forgotten.
It moves you to tears in so many places, but makes you laugh out loud in many more. Their work spans so much more yet this is the one that still holds such a firm place in my heart, that takes me back to that young dyke sitting in Sisterwrite or First Out turning to that page first. This could be seen as an illustrated autobiography, which it is, but it is so much more it is a slice of time in lesbian but also LGBTQIA+ ourstory.
