I enjoyed the friendships that were built and how they developed, and also how the twins discovered themselves and their individual personalities. I am genuinely torn with this book, it’s so truly beautiful and I did actually love the free-verse style and is something I may read more of in the future, but like I say, I just wanted more.
It was emotive, heart breaking, uplifting, and looked at an issue that many of us could never even contemplate and the impact of that on the lives of the individuals and those around them. 5 stars on my blog]I’ll be honest, I definitely should have done a bit of research or looked into some reviews before I bought this book!
The cover and synopsis caught my eye when I was out shopping, so I headed home and bought it from Amazon. So basically, when buying this book I had no idea that it was written free-verse (it’s essentially composed of a multitude of poems). I would have liked to have read the story from both twins’ point of view, rather than just the one, and would have liked more depth into how even the most basic of everyday tasks is different for conjoined twins, but I still enjoyed reading their progress and journey. So the ending didn’t have the impact necessary to bring me to tears (happy tears or sad tears?
), and obviously as that is one of the most crucial and emotional parts of the story, I would have liked to have been able to immerse myself more than I could. [This book received 3.
Crossan appears to have undertaken the necessary research to write about the topic of conjoined twins confidently and honestly, and it’s a brilliant topic for a book and one that I had never encountered before. The story itself was superb. Now, the writing style.
The writing style prevented the story from being more in depth which somewhat prevented me being able to connect to the characters. I had never even encountered free verse until I started reading this, it was certainly a shock to the system! ).
