Porter . literature historian.....and film buff.
Eyam has a very interesting claim to fame. Whispers of witchcraft dance in his thoughts. Especially difficult times for those who know how to mix potions and medicines. Mae is constantly hiding from his wrath.

The villagers of Eyam decided to cordon off the village, allowing no one in and no one out in order to try and keep the plague contained. The writing is first class and immediately transports you to the 17th century. This is particularly apt considering the pandemic we have been living through these last couple of years. It's gripping from the start, but I raced through the last third so fast, genuinely couldn't put it down.

It will be perilous to attempt. They help her learn about tinctures and potions. A sense of doom permeates this book as you slowly turn the plague ridden pages within. Local midwife Isabel sees Mae's skills with herbs and medicines and wished she would train as a midwife.

This peaked my interest as it is inspired by the true story of the so-called ‘plague village’ of Eyam in Derbyshire. Meanwhile tales from London infiltrates the village bringing news of the city being ravaged by the outbreak.
When Mae discovers her father's diaries and perused the pages under the dark of night, she uncovers his secrets and desperately seeks means to escape. The story rotates around Mae, the 14yr old daughter of the local apothecary Wulfric, a strict and religious man with a dark past, who believes only sinners will be taken by God.
