For the more advanced child, you may also wish to look into Raspberry Pi based robot kits. Artificial intelligence at it's very best. Once you have a nice clear low table for it and you get the hang of controlling it it is good fun.

Cozmo has a charging cradle which has to be powered by a USB charger (not provided). We even wait for many months if there will be an updates, but it is so frustrating that every time my son plays his beloved cozmo he only got approximately 3 minutes then cozmo will shutdown automatically.
