Final judgment: I inserted it into the computer for a customer together with an SSD and it ran very well, never any slowdown, responsive and fast. Perhaps the negative reviewers could name and shame the companies selling the bad drives, to see if there is a pattern of bad drives being sent out again and again, and also if any particular company is not packaging correctly. Formatting under XP is fine, you just don't want to let it create the partitions. GParted Disc Partition.

Toshiba's RMA process also doesn't work - logon to the website and it will send you in an infinite loop of entering the product ID, purchase location, date, and amount - press "Continue" and it starts you over in the process, YOU CAN'T ACTUALLY SEND IN AN RMA REQUEST! That took 48 hours of continuous stress to complete, which it did with no errors. Temperatures during use are in the order of Seagate > Toshiba > WD.

The hard drive will no longer mount after 6 months, and I get the following error on boot: Hard drive won't mount, I get a "Sec Master Hard Disk: S. The only downside is that it's louder than any other hard drive I've had (which, to be fair, isn't that many) - I'd say it's about three or four times as loud as a WD Blue, for reference.
