I like the flat illustration style where it pops up, and the photo's are warm and homely. And the underlying ethos - that eating well doesn’t have to cost the earth - is important. Jack writes from personal experience, testing recipe's and has a great community of food lovers online.

I came for the French Toast and stayed for Monster Bums and RatatouilleA great selection of recipes, hints and tips The book is clearly laid out, the photography is good and the text is engaging. What you won’t find are trendy, exotic or expensive ingredients: this is how to take commonplace food and lift it, simply and affordably.

Getting the most from it might mean changing the way you shop, cook and even store food - not just learning a few new dishes. The layout is pretty clean and crisp and feels modern. And as usual Jack's recipe just work . I've read some of the other reviews and some of the comments seem a bit comical to me, admittedly I charged through the filler at the front - I get that it was needed to add a theme to the book as a point of difference, but it doesn't detract from the content that had the most value to me - the recipes and the prompts they give me .
