After replacing my deck during the first 2020 lock-down, it was time to oil (6-9 months). One 5L tin has covered all our decking. Bad points - I know I should have done my research and I’m not blaming the product but the instructions say you have to put two coats on, this is not really made obvious in the advert and is in the small print on the back of the can, I wonder how many other people have been caught out with this? If you have much less decking then this is not an issue however value for money goes out the window compared to products that only require one coat.

I power wash the decking first, then I use a special cleaning fluid to bring it up whitish and that removes the slippery aspect from it and finally I apply the Ronseal Decking oil, you will see this in the images I have included. I applied 2 coats sparingly and there is plenty left for next year. I have included 4 images that you will maybe find funny and useful. I read one review saying that when the oil was laid, it was still tacky after 4 hours and yes I do agree with that, for me with high fences around my garden with little wind getting to the decking which helps it dry faster in my opinion, It would take at least 8hrs to dry completely.

It looks loads better and hopefully will help it to last a bit longer! Firstly, it wouldn’t matter to me if any make claimed it would last 1 year or 10 years just for the simple fact on where my decking is situated. With a retail price of £60 this deal is awesome. We inherited decking with our house which is quite old, we assume, but still useable.

The chippie that installed our new pergola and decking said that one thing he would not compromise on is the quality of the deck oil he personally used and he uses Ronseal. Our deck has been down 6 years and never treated.
