Characters all have their secrets, making it hard to figure out motives and history until they are revealed to us. This is a dark, disturbing gripping read that revolves around the story of Sally and her early haunting life. This book has several similarities to Room, but it’s even more horrific. The small town setting suited this book perfectly and also spoke to me as I am also from a small Irish town.

I absolutely loved this book, especially Sally. Where to begin, I know this will be one of my top reads of the year! The story itself had my attention throughout. This was my first Nugent novel but it will definitely not be my last as I adored it!

Personally, I found her quite relatable. Why can’t she remember anything before she was adopted when she was 7?

As a story unfolds, my initial perception of Sally was turned on his head . * Please research any trigger warnings before reading * This book stays at the back of your mind days after reading it !

Her reaction to these events makes us pity and admire her in equal measure. I also liked how the ending of this book was left open for a possible Book 2 if Liz chooses to write one, but not in a cliffhanger type of way. From page one with Sally disposing of her father and her voice you are fascinated. Following her father’s death and her misinterpretation of his joke, Sally is thrown into chaos, as her actions result in a media storm.
