About this deal

In the course of research, Tim Spector has been shocked to discover how little scientific evidence there is for many of our most deep-rooted ideas about food. Can pregnant women rely on their doctor's advice about what to eat? Do doctors know anything about nutrition? We are all bombarded with advice about what we should and shouldn't eat, and new scientific discoveries are announced every day. Is fish good for you? Spector explores the scandalous lack of good science behind many medical and government food recommendations, and how the food industry holds sway over these policies and our choices. Yet the more we are told about nutrition, the less we seem to understand. What about coffee, red meat or saturated fats? Author: Tim Spector

His big message is that there is no one size fits all for diet. Absolutely loved this book. Highly recommended. Always have breakfast - only if it works for you, but the 'kick-starts your metabolism' myth doesn't outweigh the weight-loss benefit of just not eating a meal.

M Harris

The bacteria in our gut (the microbiome) is as individual to us as the rest of our body, and trying to follow rules designed for the average person doesn't work, because there is no average person. Open-minded. Gluten is bad for you - nope, not unless you're in the 1% with an actual allergy or Crohn's disease.

All of the claims and the advice Tim Spector gives in this book are referenced to the scientific research. Interesting and Short nutrition book. It's short and pithy, yet gives you huge amounts of interesting information without being overwhelming.

Amazing book, I learned so much about food from this book.

He ends with 12 takeaway messages, which aren't rules, and which I will certainly incorporate into my eating. I believe that what I’ve learned from this book is going to help me live healthier and longer. Spector addresses many 'accepted truths' about diet that are repeated constantly by governments, doctors and self-proclaimed health influencers, and dismantles them with the aid of science.
