About this deal
A small community tucked deep in the forest, Beartown is home to tough, hardworking people who don’t expect life to be easy or fair. Soon a team starts to take shape around Amat, the fastest player you’ll ever see; Benji, the intense lone wolf; always dutiful and eager-to-please Bobo; and Vidar, a born-to-be-bad troublemaker. But just when it seems that Beartown Ice Hockey might be disbanded due to the defection of their best players, the team gets a surprising new coach-and a chance at a comeback. With immense compassion and insight, Fredrik Backman—“the Dickens of our age” (Green Valley News)—reveals how loyalty, friendship, and kindness can carry a town through its most challenging days. It has the captivating feature of a good story, with the poignant touch of pragmatic reality. But! And it’ll leave you with a book hangover. Sure I’ve welled up a bit or got a lump in my throat but have not really ever cried (from what I can remember).

So despite the sensitive storylines, the perspective feels balanced. In a similar essence to Beartown, this book’s atmosphere is somehow both nostalgic and claustrophobic at the same time – like living in a small town. I really did like the book but I think it was a bit hyped up from the way he chose to write it.

And while it may not have the same tight grip on me Beartown had, it’s still just as spectacular. But it still has an enthralling and addictive quality that makes it difficult to resist.

I’m not sure where to even start with this review and I’m having a hard time putting how I felt about this book into words. . The same things are said over and over, just in different ways.
