This story was not subtle in highlighting suppression and the double standards women are subjected to. Well, it blew my socks off. There were hints at other fairy tales in the story and I'd definitely read more retellings from this author - if that's the plan. The plot twists are so amazing and well placed but beware; after I read this I could never look or read anything about cinderella in the same way again.

Add a dash of humour too and it’s a winning book. She wants to be free to be with the girl she loves, to have her own rights and to no longer live in fear of the King and his rules. Be a light in the dark.

'Cinderella is Dead' by Kalynn Bayron is a retelling for the original story we all grew up reciting. I can't possibly describe how amazing this book was. This book does include same sex relationships and that does not bother me at all.

From the very beginning I was hooked. "Do not be silent. I wasn’t a huge fan of the original even as a little girl so I was impressed with how much this update to the narrative gave the women in the story inner strength, a desire for power over their destiny and to seek for more from life than just a handsome prince. I had high expectations for this book and I’m happy that the book ended up exceeding my expectations!

Ebonee

A Fairytale for a new age. Although she lives in a heteronormative world, she is very open about her desire for women and how she will do anything to allow herself the right to be with someone of her choosing. Raise your voice.

" tropes. As for the YA label; Amazon suggests it to readers aged 12+… I’m not entirely sure I’d agree, since there is a degree of peril throughout and even a public execution 😳I also appreciated that this novel features a black protagonist, and features queer relationships.

There were many moments where I felt the writing was predictable, only for another twist and turn to arise that took me off guard. I loved reading a YA book that really emphasised the lesbian sexuality of the protagonist!
