There's a safety at the top switch it off and then press the black button at the back of the handle. Please note before you try to use it, it needs to be filled with Butane gas, it fills from the underside and as soon as its full you're ready to go. It's lightweight and easy to hold and operate. Simple to use, whether you want Creme Brulee or just to bubble cheese on toast it's a nifty little gadget for any cooks kitchen.
