The archaeology/nordic aspect was something different which I enjoyed. I will definitely read another.

Instead she's an intelligent woman with focus and nuance and a rich interior life. The mystery aspect is also stellar, with hints of the supernatural in the Cathbad character. They behave like actual people, responding naturally and in interesting ways. The characters are rich and so real - they don't have that 2D feel of so many crime novels.
This is the first Ruth Galloway novel, and the beginning of my obsession with Elly Griffiths' work. My only slight criticism is that it's not very long, 295 pages Absolutely stunning. Nor is she a 'feisty' single spinster stereotype.
Ruth isn't wringing her hands because she's single and lives alone and is a little chubby. This was a very enjoyable read.
