Emma's Biblio Treasures

Thank you to Wildfire Books/Headline for the early review copy. Where with one impulsive decision born out of love, Ariadne, daughter of Minos, will change her life and that of her sister forever. Though the story was very well written and very informative. We will never know, what we do know is Jennifer Saint is exactly that, a saint, she shines a big fat light on the injustices and prejudice woman have faced and are likely to face for many more years, woman are the biggest downfall of men and they get punished for it.

Illuminating, captivating and educational, this was a revelatory experience for me and left me desperate to learn more about the subject. Minos and Theseus have god—complexes, which they use to manipulate and generate fear in their subjects and in their personal lives, they both take it upon themselves to punish Scylla and Ariadne rather than letting the Gods handle their fate, they rule with fear and make their wives lives miserable, a golden cage is still a cage (is that how the saying goes?

There is an artistry to the writing that is almost cinematic in its resulting immersion of the reader into the story – and the women in this novel are layered, nuanced and embody every woman at some point of their lives. The children were also a balm to the tragedies. It is one of my all time favourites and I can’t wait for Electra to come out. I will admit I cried at the end of this book…I simply did not want to leave the vibrant world Jennifer Saint immerses you into, where women live under the often petty will of men and Gods alike, where both wonder and horror reside in equal measure.

I was hooked; totally obsessed and savouring every word as I luxuriated in this book. It was a truly impressive debut. This isn’t a slander to the book, the author or even the cover just the conditions it came to me from Amazon.

From the very first page, you are transported to Ancient Greece. Ariadne was an immersive experience with the kind of writing that got you lost in the page.

Najma

It is richly detailed, lyrical and immersive. Daedalus although a man, was also a prisoner, kept by Minos for his cleaver inventions, he was however more of a father figure to Ariadne than Minos could ever be.

I just feel it lacked personability with the main characters. I was invited to review an ARC copy for Ariadne via NetGalley for @jennifer. Please do check trigger warnings on other reviews or dm me for details.
