It’s beautiful in a macabre way, but the bones are a bit rough and gory. Maybe not quite yet. Mara gets in the middle. 1 twisted and toxic love story that will have you biting your nails and your anxiety spiking.

This is book one of two, so there’s clearly more to come, and while this book had my eyes wide and my head shaking often, I was also enthralled by it and finished reading it in one day, which honestly is rare for me as of late. This intense psychological thriller is just as good as her mafia books.

The slow progression of Mara and Cole's involvement (and dependence on each other) was really clever, her bond she formed with him wasn't unrealistically fast like it tends be in other romance books; they actually know each other before getting too involved (creepy stalker shit aside). If you’re a big fan of murder podcasts, true crime, or appreciate some good gory fiction then you may find it easy to get through. Hmm.

If you have triggers of blood, death, assault, brutality, then you may want to read more critical reviews or ask for a more detailed content warning. She never disappoints ever. My only serious critique is the scene where Cole fixes her tattoo, and that's only because tattoo artists usually stretch the skin when tattooing (hard to do when your other hand is busy), but as a concept the whole scene was still really enjoyable.

Here’s the gist, this story isn’t pretty. That said, that’s all I’m saying. He’s just everything. The dynamic between Cole and Mara was amazing.
