Potter picks up on universal feelings we've all felt and because of this I connected so easily with Nell and wanted to keep reading just to see if she ended up happy (spoiler; she did). Her life was falling apart, and who hasn't been there?

Emotions ran high during this novel. Because it's only when you are ready to surrender the life you thought you were going to live that you finally get the life you were always meant to live" I marvelled at her new friendship with Cricket and felt aggrieved on her behalf when she was with her old friends. We follow her through a whole year of her life, month by month, as she slowly gets back on her feet.

)Nell’s openhearted candor is proof that the more we love, and the more we give, the more love we have to give. Annabel was a perfect image of enemy-turned-friend but because she was so well written I actually longed for her redemption, for her to become a positive aspect of the novel. I have laughed out loud to some parts and cried at others but everything was so relatable and like a comfort blanket knowing your not alone in feeling like a failure at life. Alexandra Potter for writing it.

Do we ever know what goes on behind closed doors? Nell is a brilliant character who is fun and kind. Having heard of the ABC comedy series “Not Dead Yet” based on it, I wasn’t expecting much deep thinking. (Also, the clever easy-to-miss footnotes are like tiny secret prizes.

Loved the diary format, very relatable and funny. The result is a bubblier version of Thomas Moore’s Dark Nights of the Soul.

If you read this book after a break-up, you will end up feeling much more positive. "This is Bridget Jones minus the weight checking, cigarette counting etc. Trying to find her feet again she runs into a mountain of obstacles but Nell Stevens is never one to back down.
