I hope it gets made into a film 🙏🏽. As a Sikh woman with punjabi heritage, I was without a doubt able to resonate with so much of the character's challenges with family, expectations and identity.
So in my opinion, the title of this book does not do this tale any justice. Baby is a woman at a cross road in her life and her decision to travel to India is much more meaningful than just doing a runner - it should have been given a different title. It's a beautiful and emotional journey, discovering family secrets and horrifying depictions of partition. I took it on holiday and finished it within 3 days, I loved it.
Anita really captured the reality for many girls/ women trying to navigate independence with so much judgement and sometimes blunt interference from the wider community.
