Reviews

I was very sad when the community and the library had to close at the end of the war as everything started going back to normal. In disused tube stations there is now a community of people living in makeshift shelters after being forced from their homes by Nazi bombs. It was a really absorbing, gripping read that manages to be both heart warming and heart breaking.

Sue's review

"They were a community, albeit a strange one, living along the Central Line but going nowhere. I really enjoyed the history sections at the end of the book, I highly recommend this book! You can feel the bonds that they formed and the importance of the library as an escape for them.

She's trying to protect her mother from a viel evil man but there's more to him than we know. During the war, Bethnal Green Library was destroyed and the tube station became an underground library and safe haven for all in Londons East End. I read this book in two days as I just couldn’t put it down as I has to find out what was happening next.

Emma's Biblio Treasures

Based on an astonishing true story, this was an absolute gem of a book. The station at Bethnal Green is also home to something truly remarkable: the country’s only underground library, which was created by Librarian Clara after the one above ground was destroyed.

I can't wait to read more books by Kate Thompson. If you love historical fiction then you will definitely love this page turner of a book. Firstly, as regular members of my blog will know, I absolutely love books set in the Second World War especially if learn about something new.
