I'ts been great, with the included mic as well as my Rode filmmaker kit mic. The reason for this is that I like the small form factor of the GoPro and would not like changing that by adding the media mod, so a great alternative is to use this little recorder. This has been my go-to mic recorder combination for the past few attempts of recording myself using my GoPro.
One extra step when you edit the video, to sync audio, but I give a few loud claps before I start recording and that makes syncing audio very easy. Also, with it recording in 32-Bit Float there is so much that you can do with it in post production, however for the most part I just fixed the volume and did not do much else and it was perfectly acceptable. Brilliant investment, love it so much.
I talk soft and I usually hide the mic under my shirt, so it really has to work hard and even with all those variables I still get very good usable sound that I am happy to use on my video's. . Sound quality is much better than the GoPro built in microphone, and unexpected load noises does not ruin your sound.
