As someone in my seventies and a father of daughters and young grandchildren, I found reading this story to be particularly harrowing. You deserve credit Maureen for not only surviving that miserable early childhood but for giving a voice in this book to the many silent voices of those Magdalene inmates.
Instead of caring for this vulnerable and innocent child who had done nothing wrong, they treated her as being the wicked one. Surely there is a special corner in a place of damnation for those who took pleasure in cruelly inflicting those physical and emotional wounds on someone so young.
