I devoured it. Instead of the tried and true formula of the alpha anti-hero and the heroine caught in his web, Emily treats us to an anti-heroine. I am paying for brand new books I expect them to arrive in that condition!

I’ve said it the last two reviews in this series, Emily is a phenomenal story teller, I can’t get enough. As always, Emily delivers a story unexpected, poignant, and beautifully penned. I love all the books in this series but this one! I don’t know how something so dark had my wanting to kick my feet.

And, my love for this series overall and Emily’s meaningful and provoking writing style certainly influenced my love for this book. All the characters are so interesting and she has you turning pages wanted more especially with this one. She’s powerful and clever- an alpha mastermind, the true showrunner for her family's crime. This entire series is great I have nothing but good things to say about it - except that I wish the books were longer because I devour them too quickly.

Evie is a villain, through and through. The nods are more subtle in this one, and it’s a bit shorter than the others, the ending in particular felt a bit quickly wrapped up. She captures the important essence of the iconic wicked heroine and the wonder of the story of Oz- in a whole new way. And this was that.

Evie is so captivating as a heroine- Emily somehow imbues her with enough depth for us to see layers in Evie, to root for her, giving her enough baggage and vulnerability that we CARE, but she also doesn’t shy away from making Evie truly BAD. 5 stars for all her books.

IM HERE FOR IT. Don’t take “easy read” as cute and fluffy, whilst this was cute in the darkest way, it was dark, possibly triggering for some, but for my blackened soul this was perfect. It will set your Kindles or paper copies on fire.
