This book was a welcome change from my usual genre and I was pleasantly surprised. From the loving husband turned into an abuser and hurt her. She eventually finds the courage to leave him, taking their two children, Olly and Tabitha, with her. This book didn’t disappoint me either, I do love how how this author has brought her stories and plots upto modern age.

The children sometimes used words I would consider too advanced for their ages. I was rooting for Eve all the way through; hoping she'd put the past behind her to start a new and prosperous life in Devon. Eve finally snaps and makes a terrible decision that has repercussions for everyone. I certainly found myself questioning my morals with this book because I am very much one who believes in doing the right thing and without giving too much away Eve does something unforgivable that would usually have me turning against a character however because we have seen what poor Eve has had to endure through her life there was a part of me that excused her for her actions.

I felt so sorry for Eve and her children but I loved how her character evolved as the story progressed and she started to get more confident in building a new life for herself. The twists in this story was excitedly sublime. He keeps retuning to his garden shed in the dead of night to sleep off a drunken stupor.

Betrayal is the new release from Lesley Pearse where she introduces us to Eve who has been the victim of domestic abuse and it doesn’t stop at her because Don has raised his hand to their son now too. It's just as good a read as all of the others. I don't know how much research Pearse did but it all felt very real, especially the gamut of emotions the characters were experiencing.

The beatings that Eve took are not the only shocking thing to happen and I didn't see the other thing coming so that was a complete surprise. I have always enjoyed Lesley Pearse books way back when I was pregnant with my first child and on maternity leave 40 years ago now. ! This is a book that reels you in from the first chapter, throwing the reader straight into the heart of the abuse and the sense of danger and urgency flowing through those first few chapters.
