And no, I don't get the disks for free, or I work for WD, I'm just a normal customer/user (even though with IT backround, so I work professionally with storage systems, which explains the level of detail of my review) The RED PLUS series is based on CMR technology and the plates rotate at 5400 rpm.

The RED PRO series is also based on CMR technology, but offers a higher speed, 7200 rpm. WD RED are SMR Shingled Drives. I ordered these for my new NAS. What I received is the WD30EFRX model, that is a slightly dated model that is currently present in the outlet section of the Western Digital website.

The discs work quite quietly at 5,400 RPM and offer 128 MB of cache as a fast cache (with a maximum internal data transfer rate of 175 MB/s). The disc is in bulk format, in its sealed antistatic bag, without packaging.

The review is for the WD Red Plus 3 TB and 4 TB product: After I was somewhat confused by other questions and answers as well as the reviews, I may be able to clear up some uncertainty in this way. WD RED PLUS are CMR conventional tracks, these are the better drives for a rock solid NAS. I was convinced to receive the WD30EFZX model, with better performance, and I recommend greater clarity in describing the models given the differences, even important, between the various hard drives on sale. e.
