I think this book would be more suitable for age 10 plus -adults are absolutely included in this category! It is a story that allows you to get to know each characters personality and in doing so you embark on their adventures throughout the book. As with all Michael Morpurgo stories this is a great read, the story is touching and easy to follow.

I tried to read it to my 3 year old but it was a bit too long for him to keep him entertained so maybe an older reader may like it. There are ten chapters in all, each chapter is a few pages long.

Personally I think the real winner of this book though is Benji Davies' art work. The Puffin Keeper is brought to life as the pages turn and you let yourself imagine the people and places. A tale of friendship, kindness and compassion combined with the love for the natural world thrown in, what’s not to like?

The writing itself is simple and easily digestible, which when coupled with the art is both poignant and heart-warming. There is lots to discuss, an ideal book to read in stages with lots of talk in between. It's incredible, it illustrates the story perfectly. Beautifully illustrated and delightfully written, with dark and light themes gently woven into an evocative seascape, this is ideal for children 7-10 years old.
happiness, and joy. The story isn't groundbreaking, nor does it need to be, it's a succinct journey of finding ones-self, family, friendship. There are beautiful illustrations on every other page, all of which capture the heart and energy of the story - from the dark menace of the roiling sea to colourful coastal scenes, they are all just perfect.
Provided you don't spend too much time staring in awe at the illustrations it's a half-hour read, but would be great to savour and read aloud with your children. Overall this is a really nice story which I can recommend. It is a short story which I finished within a day, but that was more to do with me not wanting to put the book down as opposed to the length of the book.
