For hand held use I'd suggest the smaller 2ah battery is used. It's quite tall for no apparent reason. It has multiple positions and an ingenious hook design.

(40cm) , they were both on par roughly but the yellow one which I have used a lot is brighter and better colour but the makita also does a fine job . My $60 Kobalt that I got on sale for $38 is significantly better built and feels more rugged. I love how you can stand the torch up and angle it how you like without fear of it toppling over.

It's much larger and longer than necessary. A minor criticism is the way the LED housing rotates sideways, in that it needs rotating all the way around to face the LEDs one way.

Makita has 18 leds and NO heatsink , the led head is slightly tacky no reinforcement either, on/off switch in wrong place at the grip instead of under the trigger finger. But if you're on the Makita platform or have a truck tool set and a home tool set and want to keep only one brand of batteries in any one location. For instance, when camping.
