The title, "Against the Gods", as an atheist, did not appeal to me. I finished it must faster than I expected. It is a remarkable good book, telling history in a very detailed and interesting way, as if Bernstein experienced all by himself.

But since several other authors referred to it as a great must read, I bought it. It's the best narration of risk thinking history, through human knowledge evolution It turned out that people used to think that predictions should only be made by god, and statistics comes close to prediction, so - according to Bernstein - that's part why it took so long to develop statistics. I think that everyone who works with, or is interested in statistics, should read it.
