Hugh Duffie

So many tasty things in here and I’ve already made 4 recipes in under a fortnight. This book is brilliant. Impressed with the storytelling and the street food story itself!

There are few ingredients that are a little harder to find (ie. Photography is cool too! Would recommend!

Being part Malaysian Chinese, but not very experienced at cooking Malaysian food, this cookbook was the perfect step-by-step guide for recreating some of my favourite childhood favourites. You might need a specialist shop or order online rather than your local convenience store) but they are used over and over agin so once you stock up you’re sorted. The recipe layout is really straightforward and easy to follow - not too complicated which I was admittedly slightly worried about given how many different flavours laksas have going on. Accompanied by stories and vibrant pictures, I’ll be cooking from this a lot!

The recipes are very well written and they really work very well. Mandy Yin has done an excellent job at breaking down the complexities of Malaysia as a country and as an ethnic melting pot, as well as helping you to understand its cultural and food identity. Excellent book that I can’t recommend highly enough.

I bought this book because it was book of the month in a cookbook club that I’m part of. Love the quality feel of the book.

Full of delicious Malaysian recipes, which work and are easy to follow.
