About this deal
But when he stole a young kestrel from its nest, he was about to embark on a friendship that would teach him what it meant to love, and that would change him forever. Later, he is inexorably drawn to reggae, his lifeline through disrupted teenage years, the challenges of living as a young Black man in 1980s Britain and his imprisonment for protesting against systemic racism and police brutality. ISBN: 9781785033506 Weight: 260g An introverted, unusual young boy, isolated by his obsessions and a loner at school, Chris Packham only felt at ease in the fields and woods around his suburban home. Every minute was magical, every single thing it did was fascinating and everything it didn't do was equally wondrous, and to be sat there, with a Kestrel, a real live Kestrel, my own real live Kestrel on my wrist! But pervading his story is the search for freedom, meaning and acceptance in a world that didn't understand him.

Brilliant read as it takes you back to the 60s-70s seen through Chris’ Eyes! …. ’I also liked the way the chapters jumped around and were not in chronological order.

Highly recommended. A blissful, beautifully written book And they liked to sit in the sun or wander hand in hand across a slimy concrete pool, dodging the cigarette ends and lolly sticks and rampaging teenagers and fat Labradors fetching sticks in ankle deep water that my dad said was full of wee. ‘This schedule was all about my mother and sister because life , apparently was not ‘all about me’.

I hope Chris writes further autobiographies. Chris Packham has written a brave and honest account of his life growing up in the 60s and 70s. . Some have criticised his writing style, but I found it evocative.
A must read for all Chris’ Fans ! As I’m a similar age I loved the reminders of my own difficult childhood and school years. Written down almost in diary form it takes the reader through his early years up to now and tells you all about how he saw the world and his response to others who didn’t see things the same way!
