About this deal

Pair your cookbook with authentic Middle Eastern ingredients: Shop our Food Range

Chefs of the renowned Los Angeles restaurant of the same name, Ori Menashe and Genevieve Gergis, have collected together more than 85 recipes, alongside personal stories, that celebrate the diversity of Middle Eastern cuisine, inspired by Menashe's Israeli upbringing and Gergis' Egyptian roots. Scents and Flavors quickly became a bestseller during this golden age of cookbooks, and remains today a delectable read for epicures and cultural historians alike. In the author’s words: “With this book, I hope to build a bridge between Syrian culture and the rest of the world, with food the common denominator. With the exception of four extant Babylonian and Roman specimens, cookbooks did not appear on the world literary scene until Arabic speakers began compiling their recipe collections in the tenth century, peaking in popularity in the thirteenth century. Imad’s Syrian Kitchen is a bustling, riotous tour through 90 traditional and adapted Syrian dishes that can be made in the comfort of your own home. Languages: English Paperback, 256 pages. EAN: 9780008532376 This popular thirteenth-century Syrian cookbook is an ode to what its anonymous author calls the “greater part of the pleasure of this life,” namely the consumption of food and drink, as well as the fragrances that garnish the meals and the diners who enjoy them.

So I ordered the book straight away, the book is full of amazing recipes interspersed with wonderful & sometimes very personal stories of his life & losses. Watched Saturday kitchen 8/7/23 & could have listened to Imad story for hours. A wonderful gift to anyone or be kind to yourself & buy it for yourself. 5 star ⭐️

My daughter's birthday is not complete without a huge plate of dolma [made with minced lamb] and these are addictive. This is not just any cookbook it’s beautifully written with clear instructions & advice for any level of cook. I was first taught to cook Middle Eastern food by an Iraqi friend 40 years ago.

There's not much new in Imad's recipes but a great guide and nice to have the personal spice mixes. Since then me and my family eat this way on a regular basis. This book is now joining my collection alongside The Baghdad Kitchen [which I also recommend if you can find it]. A Love letter from Damascus to the UK not just London in my opinion.
