This model has an interesting “baffle” ar the back of the toe box designed, I assume, to outlast straight leather at that critical wear zone. Counterbalancing this good is the bad of the inner sole that is elevated on the lateral side (outside) of each shoe’s interior. A decent design of low hiker, roomy and well-fitted.

In my first pair of Keens I was wearing a orthotic and Keens were one of the only shoes that allowed you to remove the insole and insert the orthotic. This tries to put a small arch on the outside of your feet.

That hard plastic's edged feel like they will cause the leather and inside to wear our rapidly, break through the material, and possibly cause foot discomfort. There's plenty of room for heavy socks.

After that I got a pair of ankle hiking boots and hiked around Maine from Katahdin to Acadia, NP in them. If stability, solid craftsmanship, and quality components are what you want in a low hiker - look no further. I’ll admit to feeling mixed about these well made shoes because they themselves are a mix of excellence and issues.
