Reviews

Martin Poppitt

Goodness, everyone who spent their formative years in ANY multicultural environment in the UK in the seventies abd early eighties will recognise something about their existence in this wonderful book. Hell, it is GLORIOUS - the initial imagery of the games room at the back of Great Western Fish Bar is fabulous, not least because now I can visualise exactly what the author was seeing, from the red telephone box 'streaming' Dial-a-Disc @ 2p a minute, to the lunchtime invasion of the overweight desk coppers from the Police Station across the road. Every kid who spent their early years growing up in Brum in the Seventies should read this book.

Started reading this on the recommendation of a friend - had not heard of it before. It is funny, charming and witty, full of pathos and vivid storytelling.
