The story follows the very first crew of the TARDIS as they land in a petrified forest on an alien planet.

This was the very first Dr Who film and the first colour appearance of the Doctor. This is the 1 disc, Region B blu ray release from Studio Canal. Peter Cushing who starred here as the first non canon Doctor. This is a splendid rstoration on blu ray - very detailed and colourful but with a high level of film grain which is explained in the accompanying documentary on the restoration.

The studio bound sets are awash with satuated colour but skin tones are quite natural looking on a 4K 78" TV and the sound is DTS Master Mono (see the review of Daleks Invasion for an explanation of why a 5. The running time is 83 minutes. Its due to the Teechniscope image which was shot in a matted scope image then enlarged and put onto standard 35mm film stock anamorically - resulting in the grain being emphisised. 1 track wasnt used)Peter Cushing is the Doctor here in a Scope/colour version of the classic BBC b/w episodic TV production trying to destroy the Daleks on planet Skaro and save the race of Thals who also inhabit the planet.
The release of this blu ray was to coincide with the 50th anniversary of Dr Who, premiering on the BBC in 1963 and the 100th anniversary of Peter Cushings birth. Priced around £13.
