The chapters throughout the book are short, which is great because it keeps the pace of the book really snappy. The story is based upon a teenage girl who witnessed a crime, which has unforeseen circumstances for her & her entire family as it results in her having to go into witness protection. How To Disappear may have just knocked that off the top spot. Aidan can't leave his daughter (who must stay to care for her mum) so Lauren and Zara have to go alone.

Off to buy others by this brilliant author now 📖📙📚 It is stressful and terrifying as the threats to Zara and her family continue, compulsive reading. If you have yet to try one of McAllister’s books then I’m actually quite jealous you have them all ahead of you! I’m not talking about corny, mushy stuff, I’m talking, real, raw, and achingly overwhelming love.

However, when Girl A's identity is discovered and threats are made, Zara and her family are advised by the police to go into witness protection. ? I think it’s always great if the characters in a thriller are relatable, as it immerses the reader into the book more readily, as were able to identify with the characters & put ourselves in their shoes, so to speak. ‘s - this book left me totally reeling and is an absolute showstopper!

Brava 👏🏽 With an ending that had me live DM’ing (whilst reading) a friend (who’d already read it) a zillion WTF? Stayed up way too late tonight to finish it as I couldn't stand the suspense!

Wow just wow it had me on the edge of my seat and had the power to totally unnerve me. The loneliness of it all is something that really struck me - Lauren goes into this situation alone with her child, and finds herself completely isolated and with no support - that is such a stark feeling of loneliness, that I really felt in the pit of my stomach. There were heart-wrenching situations and I felt I was with them as they struggled to make the right decisions, reacting to constantly changing situations.

The pacing is great: not rushed but moving steadily along with continual plot developments and plenty of reasons for wanting to know what happens next. First and foremost, Gillian McAllister has written a compelling and original psychological thriller which I thoroughly enjoyed. Aidan loves his wife and step-daughter, but he also loves his daughter Poppy (who lives with her mum), so he makes the almost impossible decision to let Lauren and Zara go, leaving him a broken man. She is threatened so must go into witness protection.

I feel like that is something that would often be overlooked. The experiences of these characters having to split their lives as they enter into protection is mind boggling - the thought of having to walk away from all those people who you love.
