Formed in 1976, The Damned were Britain's first punk rock band. 9. Book Artist One off re release limited edition cassette tape. By 1979 they had managed to disintegrate and re-assemble, way before it was fashionable. Besides the three charting singles 'Love Song', 'Smash it Up' and 'I Just Can't Be Happy Today' there is also Dave Vanian's epic tribute to Vampira 'Plan 9, Channel 7', a cover of the MC5's 'Looking at You', and the manic 'Anti-Pope'. 6. By then punk rock and it's neater sibling, new wave, were regularly producing real hits in the UK and The Damned were no exception, with three hit singles drawn from the "Machine Gun Etiquette" LP released that year.
