This is the Helix Desktop Sharpener. The shavings are small and curly. If your lead is broken it’s just broken, but this lets the wood body grip the lead more strongly so it falls out less easily.

Well the way these desk sharpeners work by rotating a helical cutting head around the static pencil seems to shave the wood down evenly without any tearing that seems to occur with handheld sharpeners is a first plus point. ) the very sharp points are brilliant for detail work. It also seems to be quite gentle on the pencil leads as well as I got zero breaks of lead whilst sharpening a load of pencils to a fabulous long point. Also included is a clamp that secures the sharpener to a table, but I found it just as easy to firmly hold the sharpener against the table top.

But the point is stable and doesn't snap off unless excessive force is applied. Jaws DON’T leave marks!

I love this pencil sharpener. The main body, handle and jaw mechanism are all metal. Very nice sharpener and reasonable price.

I've left mine on setting 3. There are 2 sharpeners available (standard and standard/jumbo pencil size) the standard comes with a lever to adjust the sharpness (1-5 settings) the larger one doesn't, it has a small red button that you turn to select the sharpness (again, 1-5 settings - see photo) Should the lead break whilst sharpening and jam the sharpener you push the same button to push the broken lead out and then continue sharpening. It will extend to a few inches, not recommended unless you have a 6" pencil you want to make into a 2" one!
