I must admit to being drawn to one pot dishes, especially after more complex dishes that leave the kitchen looking like and explosion in Lakeland! What I find really impressive, is that it's not just page after page of 'stew'. Locally scallions are around $4 for a small pouch of four.

Items that are usually in any kitchen. That's costly for onions.

For example, Feta cheese and scallions. But just as many are pretty cheap to make - potatoes, eggs and other common ingredients. Anything that simplifies cooking is always welcome, and since I only cook for two I appreciate smaller recipes. Many of the recipes in the book are great for two or are easy to cut down.

The Spanish chicken recipe is a particular favourite as it has the smoked paprika flavour that we like and is very low on calories. It is full of impressive recipes, both in looks and flavour, which require fairly minimal preparation and can be cooked in one pot/pan to be served as it is with minimal faffing with accompanying dishes.

The cookware is also common and not specialized, so pretty much any home-chef can make them. Neither keep for an overly long time so you're better off finding recipes that use them both as soon as possible. One-pots means less washing up which is always a bonus. We've made a few and love them all.

The book has recipes and flavours for all, including many vegetarian meals as well as meats, chicken and fish, all very flavoursome and mostly easy to prepare. This is one of many 'LEON' cook books and as I am quite a lazy cook but love flavours, this one is perfect for me. There are basic favourites – like sausage and mash – but with the perfect gravy to go with it. I love a stew but I want variety of meats, vegetables and, most of all, flavours.

We plan on making some of the fish recipes - there are several and they all look tasty. This is a fabulous recipe book for anyone to own, especially if you like winter comfort foods, but is also a great one for 'just married's' and newly left home young people as the step-by-step recipes are so easy and ingredients easily obtainable. The 100 one pot dishes are split intoNaturally fastPoshLow and SlowFresh and EasyCosy and WarmSimple SuppersThe dishes that I have tried are straightforward and the current favourite is Coq Au Vin in the oven, which is a simple take on the classic. I've added chorizo too but that throws the calories out of the window!
