, might be playing a role in my rapid weight gain and low mood. And I've completely changed my view, realising the grip that the food industry has on us, often with messages from 'trusted' people like our own governments. I found reading the book as compulsive as eating ultra processed food, but in contrast to UPF, the book will help me to be healthy and possibly save my life. This book was a great read and certainly eye opening!

I also really enjoyed the addition of the bonus discussions, almost like a mini podcast between the author and his brother Xand. My main take away: If I'm snacking on something wrapped in more layers than an onion, and the ingredients list is longer than my arm, it's probably UPF. upf.

A lively, entertaining, eye-opening and non judgemental book which shares information about the ultra processed food we all eat, without realising the harm that it is quietly causing us. I think everyone should read this book and then decide for themselves. It's scary to think that we put this stuff in our body without a second thought. I have also listened to the Audible production which adds to the great writing with an engaging voice performance.

Van Tulleken writes in a clear, warm, engaging style; you feel like you're having a chat with a friend who also just happens to be a super knowledgeable scientist. It is remarkable and maddening how far big corporations have been able to get away with toying with our food, feeding us little-tested, potentially harmful novel molecules, to massively improve their bottom line. I mean, I've always been someone who sees overweight people and just assumes it's laziness.

In this book Chris dives into the drama of Ultra-Processed Food (UPF) uncovering a massive conspiracy in our kitchen cabinets! In the book, Chris takes you on a wild ride through the ups and downs of our modern food dilemma, proving it's not our fault (at least not completely). The blend of anecdotal evidence from the authors’ personal experiences and evidence from studies and journals brings the book to life.

During the journey, he goes on his own UPF diet to see what happens, learns all about the worrying secrets of UPF, and also kicks his own addiction. 🥰 It's certainly made me more aware of what I eat and how the food industry markets and advertises UPF.

I hear you say how do you identify UPF? Ever felt like food is controlling you? The authors aim is to make you aware of what UPF is and then leaves you to decide if you want to eat it!
