You have sentences set as an example. So in one book (Red - Japanese exercise), you have the text in Japanese, and in the other book (Yellow - Grammar + vocabulary), the translation in whatever your book is translated into. Looked up cultural traditions. I went on and bought an extra grammar book to fill that gap.

BUT: -you have to look up a lot of words in the dictionary as well. -I have something called :“Kanji of the day“ I write it down on a post it, including the stroke order and practice it with my writing practice notebook. Not everyone is pleased with that kind of setting but it helped me to learn more words, especially Kanji.

I personally liked the order of the chapters:1-introducing the main theme of the chapter with sentences set as examples. The media could not be loaded. Minna no Nihongo provides a lot of chapters and includes short grammar sections each. That kept me from restraining to learn the Kanji.

It is written in Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji. 2- listening parts helps developing the listening comprehension skills. You have to write down a lot.

. 3- the grammar section was kept very short and precisely. (That's what I'm doing) There's some kanji but with the hiragana above so, it doesn't matter if you can't read kanji. The main book for the exercise is in Japanese only (of course like the JLPT) but they give you an example of what to do to each exercise.

It's not complicated. Also, there's in each (25) lesson some useful words and information. 4- and then you go on with the exercises. What I did:-summarized the grammar on little post it notes- researched words I did not know.

The grammar section it's nice and helps to really understand the meaning of the word/particle. -The grammar is not properly explained.
