Ours are next to two windows and I was concerned about that review when ordering, but haven’t had any cause for concern since owning them. Using the to weigh down outdoor patio curtains. The trick is to place the magnets as close to the pole as possible. Don't blame the manufacturer for your stupidity.

Since my shower curtain has black on it, I just found spots where they'd blend in. Also, they are easy to take on and off, you just have to twist them apart. Nice magnets could be heavier.
