Ultimately, excellent headphones for those who want to appreciate the sound of a magnetoplanar without spending a fortune, really good in relation to the price. The feeling is a bit like putting on reading glasses to read a book, the words are always the same but sharper, more in focus. When corrected, the sound improves both in the mid-high range (it becomes more neutral) and in the low range. DO NOT stick it to your smartphone, at least put a Fiio Montblanc on it!

But for me the uprade compared to the past, made of (several) closed and emblazoned headphones is remarkable. The HiFiMan Sundara 2020 is better for neutral sound than the Sennheiser HD 660 S. The headset came to me well wrapped in a cardboard box to protect its own product box. But like the rest of the frequency response, the mids sound darker with more girth on the 6xx.

The clarity in the mids for the 6xx comes the closest to matching the Sundara's clarity/resolution, but to be clear the Sundara is a more resolving and detailed headphone hands down across the entire frequency range with or without a good source. So with EQ I got the Sundara to sound amazing with my sound preference. In short, there are many sacrifices and sacrifices for listening on headphones, especially if we consider that there are headphones like the AKG K371 that cost half, they already have practically a tonal balance out of the box perfect, they have a sensitivity that allows you to drive them even with a trivial MP3 or with a smartphone, and on the other hand it has only a minimum of definition and less soundstage.

The solution is to use a balanced cable, with which the available power increases considerably and the margin before reaching the cutout moves away, the same effect can be had using an amplifier good powered desktop like my dx3pro+ topping. Unfortunately, I have to confirm the poor quality control of the HiFiMan, the first pair of headphones that were delivered to me (in a triple cardboard box and intact seal) had the chassis deformed: particular the metal headband that supported the left headset had a different shape from the one on the right, it was bent.
