The beautiful design just elevates this book even more - gorgeous endpapers & even bonus illustrations inside the back cover. An environmental message is gently woven into this fun & very cleverly rhyming story by Catherine Emmett. Its message can be interpreted in different ways.

The illustrations are incredible and match the character of McDarkly perfectly and I love the amount of colour used. McDarkly has to come up with a plan to stop the King ruining the swamp - and he only has 10 days. KING OF THE SWAMP is book that you will want to return to again and again, as it will definitely stand up to repeat readings.

King of the Swamp by Catherine Emmett & Ben MantlePublished by Simon & SchusterReview: KC ChamberlainHave you ever seen a big, HUGE purple polka-dot monster who lives in a stinky swamp, drinks tea from a cup & saucer or wears welly boots? Hope to read more from this author soon! It's amazing what everyone can accomplish when they work together, recognise what's important & enjoy the natural beauty of nature as well as people. It's always the sign of a great book when children love reading it and adults love reading it to them! Children will love following the exciting adventures of the characters.

I'm not the world's top fan of rhyming books but this one stands out & won me over completely. He has an idea but things don't go quite to plan. Such a brilliant and beautiful book!

Beautifully written, children love listening to it and will then read it independently when they're too old to listen. I realised I was so invested when my heart sank before being uplifted by the wonderful ending. I can see it being a perennial favourite with the small children in my life.
