Measuring around 18 cm x 24 cm x 3 cm, the pale green cloth-like cover has a subtle touch of gold colouring to the front & spine that mischievously glints in the change of light. Exactly as described here.

As for the subject matter, I do not think my two cents will add or take away anything from the consensus on the greatness of Tolkien's literary megaliths. It contains well over a hundred beautiful colourful illustrations. Great condition as expected.

’Who could not be lured into the depths by that, especially this extra special hardback edition? But his contentment is disturbed when the wizard, Gandalf, and a company of thirteen dwarves arrive on his doorstep to whisk him away on a journey to raid the treasure hoard of Smaug the Magnificent, a large and very dangerous dragon.

The green cover has gold lettering and the pages come in high quality paper. We’re not disappointed with our choice. I'm guessing most people will be buying for kids but as an adult I still think its lovely to read and keep as well

What a shame, as it was purchased as a Christmas gift The illustrations in the Alan Lee version are serious and atmospheric works of art that look like something an Art Museum might have granted rights to the publisher to use. I personally love Lee's style, though there are many who will be biased towards Catlin's lighthearted artwork.

[22 images attached © The Tolkien Estate 1937/1965, Jemima Catlin & HarperCollins/2013] Literally been buzzing for this to arrive all day and it’s better than expected!

Stunning material, quality of illustration and oh so nostalgic! Why go for this particular edition when the version illustrated by Alan Lee(Houghton Mifflin Harcourt; 114th edition) is the Holy grail against which any illustrated edition of 'The Hobbit' will always be weighed?
