Had to go to You tube to learn how to program. I tried all of the online suggestions that I could find to no avail. To wrap thus up great radio for the price and near perfect.

I get in places where I can get the weather channel and switching antennas has very little difference on reception. 40 yrs later decided to give this a go remembered him saying if it gets bad learn this. I was surprised to find out, however, that it is illegal to be used for FRS or GMRS (even with a license), as it has not been certified in those bands.

I ended up using an archival version of CHIRP to program the radio. But what I found out it is a decent enough radio with a few hitches.

I could download from the radio but it would not upload from the computer. You can listen to any frequency you want, but transmitting can only be done by a licensed HAM operator in the HAM frequencies. .

08 SWR from the original rubber duck antenna…. To be fair 5w is good enough, but 8 is better and the mix of levels and settings being off drove me to exchange the radio to see if the next one delivers the specifications as posted in the manual. It does the job that I bought it for.
