-𝗜 𝗮𝗺 𝗽𝗼𝗼𝗿. -I think The Manningtree Witches is a great book to read as we head into spooky season, and I would recommend it to readers who enjoy the classics and historical fiction with more slow-burn plots. And she serves as a reminder to all women that to be strong and outspoken brings challenges in a society where women are still viewed as second class citizens.

𝙇𝙤𝙫𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙮 𝙣𝙚𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙧, 𝗚𝗼𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀. -𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘁, 𝗽𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘁𝘆. -I do love historical fiction, especially when it relates to the hidden stories of those who have been silenced by history, and The Manningtree Witches was no exception. It feels like an older book in its tone, pacing and use of vocabulary, but there is no doubt that Blakemore creates some beautiful descriptions - both of the environments and landscapes that Rebecca finds herself in, but also of the characters themselves.

A more accurate translation would be thou shalt not suffer a poisoner to live, but so many used this false translation to convince themselves, and others, that killing innocent people accused of being witches was somehow God's work. Through her depiction, Blakemore provides some commentary on society at the time, perhaps to better aid our understanding of how the witch craze swept the country.
