Mr Baz

Plastics are acceptable they could be a little more robust but they are up to the job. Instructions are comprehensive and give detailed information on fitting, location for alarms and the detection quality for various types of "fire response" Clear and simple diagrams are shown, wiring is straight forward into the base unit a few notes though a min of 30 cm between the alarm and any obstructions this includes walls or handling lights.

All these alarms are interchangeable with the "easy fit base". Optical alarms are more sensitive to "slower smouldering fires" and less prone to false alarms from the kitchen area (grill and toaster would set off the Ionisation alarm often) this is better, though a little less sensitive to rapid flame fires the other variety is a bit better here both types provide good protection though the manual shows you the recommended areas and suggested alarm types quite clearly I have both types fitted (Ion one upstairs) there is also a "heat alarm" which you can fit in kitchen areas from the same maker.

I kept the base as a spare just in case it is needed later on. Not many the "easy fit" could perhaps be a bit smoother I would advise a larger flat head screwdriver push this in and push it down slightly to help remove the alarm it works but it can take a bit of "jiggling about". The 9 volt battery is capable of powering the alarm for up to 2 years without mains, it's really there as a back up if the power goes off you are still protected. Any downsides?
