I love the fact that the reader is never quite sure who is a friend and who is a foe, as secrets are revealed and more mysteries appear. Fun fact - Thomas Taylor is the artist behind the original Harry Potter illustrations. Maybe it’s the seaside town setting with its strange legends or the odd shops like the book dispensary and that mermonkey, but something about this book just felt so brilliant and it was just so engrossing to read, I really couldn’t put it down and I can’t wait for the next book in the series!

Rather reluctantly, Herbie agrees to help solve the mystery … and what an adventure it takes them on. Together they fight for the truth and discover a monster but the monster isn’t always the thing that’s living in the sea.

I'm quite happy with this review just being a gushy length of text saying how much I loved the book! Herbert Lemon is the Lost-and-Founder at the Grand Nautilus Hotel, and he prides himself on being rather good at his job.

The dark and spooky atmosphere of the setting Eerie-on-sea provides a great backdrop for story telling. I love adventure stories in general and I’ve always loved strange and eerie tales of legends and creepy happenings.
