The added 15mm opening allows external pipework to be installed without using another plumbing valve or fitting. This wall plate elbow is most commonly used when installing an outside tap. The bib tap screws into the 1/2" threaded opening to provide water access for using apparatus such as a garden hose.

These do the trick by lining up the lock shield valves with the rads albeit and 90° but they work. Fitting type 22 rads around the house but found the pipes didn’t line up with the tails coming out of the rads.
