A child will need adult assistance to get started. I think it is great that there is a safety guard to protect small fingers from the needle. Keep an eye on your fabric stash because this is addictive. Nice selection of accessories included.

The needle needs to be threaded and there are no pins (to hold fabric together). To my delight I found there was something inside. You get a Barbie in a leopard print dress (I do not find it attractive). I have a niece who loves Barbie, so I thought this would make a great gift.
. Very nice set. ! You get fabric, pattern, stickers (to decorate the sewing machine), and the machine.
I got this machine for my daughter for Xmas. It is a basic sewing machine, but it is well-made. curiosity got the better of me.
